Microsoft is working on a head-mounted device that could monitor pulse data and blood pressure data. Wearables can range from watches, fitness bands and smart glasses. Each device has specific features that fill specific needs such as the Fitbit fitness band, which focuses on tracking fitness related data. However, wearables devices are starting to do more and the capabilities are expanding. For example, smart glasses could be an all in on that could include fitness tracking, smartphone capabilities including GPS, health data capturing and perhaps provide remote health. There is a range of possibilities. Perhaps smart glasses will replace the smartphone and wallet while enabling everyone to have the digital sixth sense. http://www.pranavmistry.com/projects/sixthsense/
Let’s see where this Mircosoft’s patent leads.
Here is an excerpt from the patent application:
Examples are disclosed herein related to a head-mounted device, such as wearable eyeglasses, to continuously monitor pulse data and blood pressure data. One example provides a head-mounted device, comprising a first optical sensor positioned to measure pulse data at a first arterial location that is a first distance from a heart, a second optical sensor spaced apart from the first optical sensor and positioned to measure pulse data at a second arterial location that is a second, different distance from the heart, and a controller wired to the first optical sensor and the second optical sensor and configured to determine blood pressure data from the pulse data measured by the first optical sensor and the second optical sensor.
