According to Wikipedia, fentanyl is an opioid used as a pain medication and together with other medications for anesthesia.[2] Fentanyl is also made illegally and used as a recreational drug, often mixed with heroin or cocaine.[4] It has a rapid onset and effects generally last less than an hour or two.[2] Medically, fentanyl is used by injection, as a patch on the skin, as a nasal spray, or in the mouth.[2]

It has become an epidemic. The government is looking for solutions on how to slow down and eventually stop the epidemic.

Particularly, the Department of Homeland security has recently contracted a Utah company, Vaporsens,  to develop fentanyl sensors.

The idea is to equip first responders with the wearable sensor that will enable them to detect traces amounts of the drug.
