One of DHS (Department of Homeland Security)’s missions is solving issues related to disaster prevention and management. This, of course, involves working with the first responder community to ensure predicaments are understood and the research and development investments are in the right direction/domains.
This is one of the reasons why DHS, undersecretary for Science and Technology started an accelerator program in 2014 called EMERGE. EMERGE 2016 focused on wearable technology for first responders. The accelerator program selects startup companies to partner/invest in to push forward the agenda on science and technology research and development.
