Innovation for hospital beds? A hidden but important epidemic is what patients experience with long hospital stays. Bedsores are ulcers that happen on areas of the skin where the person is lying in bed for a long period of time. It is applicable to wheelchairs as well. It can also be applied to chairs where the user sits for a long period of time. They are pressure injuries and they can get infected to a point it can cause death. An issue that has been seen in health care providers being accused of neglect of a vulnerable patient resulting in death. How can we combat neglect? Perhaps technology could help.
A startup named Curiato is currently in the middle of clinical pilots looking ar a skin data platform that can collect realtime data from bedsheets. The sensors in the sheets can help proactively detect bedsores and help actively prevent them. By collecting data from bedsheets, the data can be used for predictive models to help prevent future issues. The potential is intriguing.
Looking forward to seeing more.
